Ross Cup Results

Hi to all,

Faversham had a good contingent at the KCPA's Ross Cup, First of all congratulations to David Gethin for attaining a merit award, there were some excellent prints at this years competition and it looked like it would certainly be a close fought competition.

1st Gateway..........135 points
2nd Eastbourne......130 points
3rd Ashford...........127 points
3rd Tonbridge........127 points
4th FAVERSHAM......126 points

Faversham entry.

Maez - Robin Warren - 12 points
Murder at the Cathedral - Greg Cullen - 15 points
Side car grass track - Robin Warren - 16 points
Nautilus Shell - Colin Becket - 15 points
Red Baron - Kevin Rook - 16 points
Wheres my sock - David Gethin - 19 points "merit award"
Fran - Greg Cullen - 16 points
Woodpecker - Bob Connelly - 17 points

I reckon to come fourth out of an entry of 32 clubs is a very good performance by Faversham, the judge's comments on some of the entries showed what
his personal likes were, and I am sure that some of the new members that attended had their eyes opened by some of the images shown and the marks attained by those images, the scoring was out of (20) twenty, and some prints were marked at 8 / 10 / 11 a recent lecturer at Faversham entered a great
shot of a statue, detail throughout, writing on the statues plinth crystal clear, but only managed a 15 score, last week our Kevin scored a 17 for his picture
Virgin 747 & the Red Arrows, in the competition there was an almost identical image?? this scored 19 and obtained a merit award (Kev's print is better) so
it shows how judges look at images in a different way.

I dont know if David knows this, but it is tradition within the club that, should anyone attain a merit award at the Ross Cup, thay have to buy the tea's at
the next club meeting, ok David I made it up, dont panic, but the rule stands, the lowest scoring member does the washing up, Marigolds out ?????

TUESDAY EVENINGS

Its that time again and our Tuesday Evenings are here again.

In order for Tuesday evenings to be successful, a minimum of 15 people would need to attend to cover the cost of hall rental. This does not include the instructors who are already donating their time, knowledge and quite often equipment.

The first Tuesday of each month will be a Critique and Questions night. Members will be required to enter their names on a sheet to indicate if they will be attending. If they do not attend, they will still be required to pay £2.00 to help with hall rental. If less than 15 people attend for 3 consecutive months, Tuesday evenings will be cancelled.

COMPETITIONS

  1. KCPA has advised the maximum number of prints plus projected images a judge should be required to comment on and mark per evening is 80.  Our membership at present stands at 72 which means theoretically if each member enters only one photo per competition night we have nearly reached the limit.

    • Members will only be allowed 1 entry per category for the remainder of this season.

  1. End of Year competitions need to be split in order for judges to properly evaluate and mark the entries.

·         13th April at present has 5 categories to be judges. These will be split into Colour Print of the Year for A and B sections on 13th April. Monochrome Print of the Year for A and B sections with Portrait of the Year on 27th April.

COMPETITION POLL RESULTS

The Poll resulted in a majority of members indicating they would prefer to enter less photos in competitions rather than have fewer practical or lecture evenings. More Practical evenings are needed, especially for newer members.

2 evenings have come free which may be used for Practical evenings. These are Ash Wednesday which as we are now in the new hall we are able to hold our regular Wednesday meeting and 2nd February, the lecturer is unable to attend. 9th March (Ash Wednesday) may become a Practical evening. 2nd February may be an in-house competition with critiques, members marking and a certificate for the Members Choice photo. These ideas are yet to be confirmed and will be readdressed at the next Committee meeting.
