Competitions

Hi Everyone

As we are drawing nearer to our first competition of the season I would like to draw your attention to the rules page linked from the home page on our website www.fdcc.co.uk or from this Link.

Printed entries must be presented either surface or rebate mounted on thick card or mountboard, you can use any colour but I recommend keeping to shades of black or white board. Maximum board size is 40x50cm, and the image size limited to A4 for the "B" section members. On the top rear of the mountboard please put the title of the print, your membership number, and indicate if it is your primary or secondary entry. We need this information as if we get too many submissions for the competition we may need to limit the entry to one BW and one colour print  per member.

For the projected images Robin need the files one week before the competition date. you need to save your image at a size of 1024x768, 8bit jpg in the sRGB colourspace. Image save other than this may not project correctly. The file name needs to be saved as shown in the document linked from the rules page.

Most of all please get to the hall early to give yourself plenty of time to submit your entries as there can be long queues. Will will start judging at 8pm sharp. We cannot accept late submissions.

On line printing

Hi to all,

With reference to the previous club meeting, one of the questions was about getting your images printed via a lab on the internet.

The following lab has been recommended, dscolourlabs.co.uk I have been informed that you will get better prices per picture if you send individual files, not a CD as CD's have to be handled by the labs staff.

All images sent must be in the SRGB COLOUR SPACE, also advised is to send off one print, this just to determine the balance between your monitor and the labs printing.

So, when your print is returned to you, should it look a bit light, you can then adjust settings in your software, ie darken 5% remember or save the settings, to use these when sending off your next file, carry out all adjustments to your image including sharpening.

22nd Sept ~ Chris Shore ~ Appraisals

Don't forget tonight we have Chris Shore coming along to look at your work and to comment on it.

This is a good opportunity to get some expert advice on your favourite prints

Chris is one of Kent's Finest Photographers and he will give good useful advice.

This will be a great evening and is one not to miss.

So please bring 1 or 2 prints only as we will not likely have time for more than that each.

Meeting 15th Sept /2010

Hi to all,

Great to see you all again last evening, and apologies for not having too much time for a one to one chat, but rest assured we will get around to faces and names.

I hope you picked up some tips from the evening, and as the season progresses things will start to fall into place, and the learning curve will not seem so steep, honest.

Don't forget any questions you may have regarding the club / photography will try to answered to your satisfaction, trivial or otherwise.

Regards

Bob

Members Work Night

Tonight is a show your work night. this is to both new and old members. we ask old members to bring some work in to show the newer members what we get up to and to what different standards we achieve.

and to the new members to bring in what they have printed so we can find out more about them. what do you like to photograph, what level your photography is at. and if we can give you advice we will

it will be a friendly laid back night tonight so no need to fret about being put under a spot light and grilling lol

hope to see you all tonight

Welcome Back

Hi, it was great to see you all there on Wednesday. I'm sorry I did not get chance to speak to everyone on the night. If I missed you then I would like to take this chance to welcome you all, and say how nice it was to see so many of you there. For the benefit of the new members, and the forgetful older ones, I would like to bring your attention to the following;

1, The club has a facebook group you can join - Here
2, A Twitter account you can follow - Here
3, A News Blog - Here
4, A Website - Here
5, A Forum/Chat Room - Here

If you are interested in the focus group sessions we hold on Tuesday evenings, where we can target any areas you wish to learn about then please contact the Vice Chairman, Richard Cornelius. (his number is on the contacts page of the website).

If you have a special interest or would like us to arrange anything, days out, particular guests etc, just speak to a member of the committee and we will see what we can do. We have experts in all areas of photography and in the use of the equipment and computers etc, so just ask and we can soon help. The club also owns a calibration system so you can make sure your images look the same on your screen, your printer and our projector. Just ask if you want someone to help you with this.

The club is your club, it's run for you and not for the benefit of the committee so please let us know if you have any issues or suggestions. I know walking into a room full of strangers can be a bit daunting but just start talking to a few people and you will soon see what a great club we have.

First Night Back

Well it was great to catch up with all members lastnight following our summer break.

The new hall is great nice size and will do us proud. albeit a few teething problems wich we will sort out.

But what was really good was all the new faces that came along to our first night to see what were like and what were are about..

It was great to talk to so many people all with interest in photography from beginers to keen photographers, i hope you all liked what you saw and felt we are a friendly club, because we really are. after all the club can only be as good as its members and its committee.

New Season - New Hall

Hi everybody, hopefully you are all nicely rested and ready to return to the club, along with all the fantastic pictures you have been making over the summer.

This years season kicks off on Wednesday the 8th of September, and looking at the program it should be a great year. With something for everyone.

And... We are moving venue to a new larger hall. (don't worry it's not far).
We have now arranged to hold the weekly meetings at the new hall now available at the same site in Tanners Street. We can continue to use the same car park, I know how you all dislike change.

Hope to see you all there

Greg
Chairman FDCC.
